your san diego wine adventure

There are literally dozens of wineries in and around San Diego, Temecula (Riverside County), up and down the coast and inland. Local microclimates produce delightful variations on the theme of fine wines. From champagne-type wines to deepest reds, you’ll find vintages to please the palate and complement good dining. Vineyards are generally small, with the proprietors paying loving attention to the growing of the grapes and construction of wines. So when you visit the tasting room, you’re likely to end up in a conversation with the owner and/or the vintner. To sample the delights of the region, visit a winery  or drop by your local wine bar.

Wineries

Filsinger Winery
39050 De Portola Rd., Temecula. 951-302-6363. Three generations of wine experience go into the reds, whites and champagnes of Filsinger. Bill’s family owned a winery in Germany. Bill and Kathy began their winery in 1980 and now son Eric is assistant winemaker. Varietals include chardonnay, cabernet, sauvignon blanc, gewürztraminer, zinfandel, merlot, viognier and four different types of champagne. Production is under 10,000 cases a year so these are rare wines. It’s worth a trip to taste them. (Fri-11am-4pm; Sat. and Sun., 10am-5pm).
