Concierge Spotlight

Mike Denton
of the Hilton Gaslamp Quarter Hotel

Mike is a native San Diegan, the fifth generation of a pioneering San Diego family. So if anyone knows the city, he does. A Point Loma native, graduate of Point Loma High (along with David Wells and Don Larsen, for you baseball aficionados) and of San Diego State University, Mike at first pursued a business career in architecture. But when the Hyatt Regency in La Jolla opened in 1993, Mike applied for a job.  A people-oriented person, Mike saw an opportunity to move into a field that gave him opportunities to use his skills. He became chief concierge of the Hyatt, left in 2001 to spend some time at the Sheraton Harbor Island and then became chief concierge at the downtown Hilton.

When not on the job, Mike’s favorite hobbies are biking, walking and traveling. He advises visitors to spend time at two of his favorite places: the well-known Cabrillo Monument and the hidden treasure: the gardens behind the Marston House Museum at the northwest corner of Balboa Park (off Upas).
