A Superstore That Gleams and Sparkles

It’s huge, and it boasts great bargains, but it is not your usual superstore. What makes South Sun Products a unique place is the merchandise—sterling silver jewelry, semi-precious stones and beads in every conceivable color and style. “Our strength is in our variety,” says owner Shlomo Gruer. “This is the jewelry that would be hard to find in department stores. And every few days, new items are arriving.”  After 20 years experience as a designer and wholesaler to hundreds of department stores, Gruer accumulated “mountains” of jewelry samples and overstock. “So we thought, ‘Let’s open the selection to the public,’” he says. The result of that inspiration is a mega-jewelry store with wholesale prices.

With discounts as much as 75% off retail and “buy some, get some free specials,” customers experience an ongoing treasure hunt. “You never know what you’re going to find,” says manager Matt Brennan. Artistic dichrotic glass clasps, intricately beaded bracelets, and sterling pendants are just a few of the offerings. Knowledgeable salespeople will help you find and choose the perfect ornaments and gems.

If you visit on a Saturday, you can shop for special discounts at the “yard sale” in the parking lot while you munch on a donut and sip a cup of coffee.  You can also sign up for beading classes that will make an artisan out of you.

It’s just 15 minutes from downtown. This mega-store is well worth the trip.
