Concierge Spotlight

Eddie Rose, Chief Concierge
Hotel Del Coronado

A native New Yorker and huge Yankee fan, Eddie began working at the world-famous Hotel Del Coronado in 1999 while attending the University of San Diego. One of his fraternity brothers helped him get a job as a pool supervisor. Seven years later, complete with his masters degree in mass media communications, Eddie is now the chief concierge at “The Del” and manages a staff of nine while also sitting on the board of directors for the San Diego Concierge Association.

“I love the day to day experience of my job – each person is a different challenge – in a good way – and dealing one on one with people makes each day different. I really like being able to impact someone’s vacation.” As chief concierge, Eddie also is in charge of all the V.I.P. guests, so he gets to deal with some famous celebrities.

“I’ve been to the premier of Stealth at the North Island Naval Air Station with Jamie Foxx, and hung out with great people like Jessica Beal and Kate Beckinsale last year for ComicCon. The nicest celebrity, though, was The Rock. He was my favorite – he was just so nice.”

Eddie is in the application process for Les Clefs D’or, a highly regarded designation given by the International Concierge Association. “There are only four or five concierges in San Diego who’ve earned that,” said Eddie.

A finisher at this year’s Rock-n-Roll Marathon, Eddie’s future looks bright and he looks forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.
