Concierge Spotlight

Alejandro Garcia
of Coronado Marriott

Alex is an almost-native San Diegan, having moved here from Los Angeles with his family at the age of 12. He grew up in picturesque Imperial Beach and still lives there.

Alex is a people person, which is why he decided to become a concierge. He began in hospitality at the Hotel del Coronado in the spa section but when a concierge position opened up at the Marriott two years ago, he applied for it and was accepted. "The best part of the job is the daily interaction with people of all ages, backgrounds and experiences. Somehow, we all find a common ground which makes every day enjoyable."

Alex graduated from Chula Vista High, where he was on the same football team as the Chargers' Donnie Edwards. He graduated from Southwestern College with a degree in Criminal Justice. However, he soon realized that the hospitality field was his true calling. He is planning to attend San Diego State to pursue a Hospitality Degree.

Alex's favorite experience: a young military man who wanted to propose to his fiancée at the hotel but didn't have much money. Alex and his co-workers arranged for a room strewn with rose petals, decorated with candles (even in the bathtub!) and a bottle of champagne. "The young lady was absolutely blown away," reports Alex. "It was the least we could do for a young man who was about to be shipped to war."

When you're in Coronado, stop by the hotel to admire the view and the setting and say hello to Alex. He will give you a real San Diego welcome.
